Second in command- Caine

Keeping with the story line I will give you a little backstory on our second Great Pyrenees, Caine.

Caine will be turning two this year on March 28th. I went to get him during Covid times when he was roughly eight weeks old. I had seen an add on Facebook for Great Pyrenees puppies. They were just the cutest! If any of you all know, Wyoming is a very large state, but the cities are spread out pretty far. Caine was born and living about 3 hours away! I screenshot the picture of the puppies and sent it to Scott. He still had to work despite Covid, but I worked a pretty limited schedule, so I was free to partake in crazy road trips. Scott agreed to let me get Caine, but worried I would have to travel alone. Assuring him I would be fine, I gathered up my middle daughter and my son and we hit the road. Making our way to the destination, we had to drive on 2 lane highways and go through a canyon. It was May during this time, and the scenery was absolutely beautiful to look at.

Finally making it to the little farm he lived on, we found a group of little fur balls and their mom. They were just all so cute! Caines mother was a maremma sheep dog and his father is a Great Pyrenees. Now maremma dogs look very similar to a Great Pyrenees. They have the same job title when it comes to predatory control. Caines mom was a very pretty girl, she was tall and her hair was long and curly.

My daughter and I played with the puppies for a bit, deciding on which one to take home with us. When we finally decided on Caine, we paid his breeder and loaded up. We made our way off the long rural farm roads and back to the highway where we started our three hour journey home.

Upon making to it back home, we were greeted by Scott and his two girls. Caine was a huge hit, and everyone loved the little fur ball.

Caine has grown up to be an extremely large dog. Weighing roughly 150lbs. He is much bigger than his arch nemesis Hank. I am not sure why these two have grown to hate each other so much. It more has to do with dominance than anything. Hank was the ruler for a while before some punk kid had to come along and challenge him, trying to take his crown.

Caine has not lived a wild life of being a sheep guardian like Hank has. Although living different lives, Caine still guards livestock. There was one time the cows pushed the fence and all of them escaped! Running through the ranch community. Hank stayed back, but Caine stuck with them the whole time. Now not being herding dogs, he did not bring them home. Instead he stayed with them keeping an eye on them until we arrived to round them up.

Caines very large stature, and bright white long thick coat makes him a beautiful ideal Great Pyrenees. He will be the future father to Nora’s puppies that she will have here on the ranch. He will pass on his genes, ultimately creating a better version of himself. The livestock guardian dog.
